A convergence of influence, culture, and solidarity defined the funeral of Eleleadinaokwu Okonkwor Ifejokwu, held at Idumuje-Unor, as family members, political and community leaders,captains of industries , military and security personnel, journalists, educators,,labour unionists, and traditional institutions gathered in a rare show of unity and purpose.

The event, marked by dignity and broad-based representation, unfolded as more than a routine farewell;it was a statement of respect, love, and collective honour, evident in the calibre and diversity of attendees who filled the family compound and venues throughout the funeral programme.

At the heart of the occasion were Comrade Dan Basime and Mrs. Josephine Basime, whose presence and participation commanded attention throughout the funeral rites.

They were joined by distinguished figures from organised labour and the media, including former NUT Chairman and presently treasurer of NLC, Comrade Titus Okotie, former NLC Chairman and Senior Special Adviser to the Governor,Comrade Mike Okeme, former NUJ Delta State Council Chairman and Peace Ambassador, Comrade Osita Biose, as well as Mrs.Teitei Josephine Poubeni, wife of the NUT State Chairman, alongside members of the State Wing Executive Council (SWEC) of NUT.

Their collective presence lent gravitas, experience, and authority to the proceedings, reinforcing the significance of the funeral and underscoring the respect Tata Okonkwor Ifejokwu commanded across generations and sectors.

Taking centre stage at key moments, these leaders brought clarity, confidence, and composure, effectively setting the tone and anchoring attendees’ engagement from the Christian wake on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, to the lying-in-state and funeral service on Thursday, February 12, the interment at the Anthony Kawedo Family Compound, and the final burial rites on Friday, February 13, 2026.

The officiating pastor,Rev Simon Osifoh of Living word delivered a moving sermon and homily, reflecting on Tata Okonkwor Ifejokwu’s life of faith, resilience, and service.He highlighted her role in nurturing generations, commitment to family values, and the importance of living a life marked by dignity and cultural pride, leaving the congregation deeply inspired..

The programme was professionally anchored by Comrade Onome Tano of Delta Broadcasting Service, whose skilful guidance of proceedings on the Catholic field ensured smooth transitions between events and maintained the dignity and solemnity of the funeral service.

Beyond speeches and formalities, the funeral was enlivened by cultural expression, as traditional performances from Ukwu-Nzu celebrated the deep cultural roots and communal spirit of the UHEH people of Idumuje-Unor.

Their display served as a vivid reminder that tradition and family legacy can co-exist harmoniously ; reinforcing identity while honouring Tata Okonkwor Ifejokwu’s life.
